Band – Individual Improvement Plan
Now that the playing assessment is over, please take a moment to answer the following as thoroughly as possible.
1) In the areas assessed, which do you need to focus on for improvement? Be specific as to how you can accomplish this.
2) How did your rating compare to the teacher’s assessment? What areas were rated differently? Did anything surprise you between the two?
3) Are there aspects of the evaluation process that you need clarification on? Cite some of the terms on the student reflection side that you would like reinforced before doing this process again.

- This form ties into other important strategies presented across this site. I did personal playing assessments 3 times a year at the middle school level and 4 times at the high school level. MS would start the year with an assessment from 1st Place Etudes to determine placement in one of our bands. This was followed by a mid-winter assessment, and the a Spring 3rd quarter assessment. For HS, playing assessments were 1st and 3rd quarter (when we didn’t have concerts), as well as the mid-year and final exams. The chosen assessment sheets (from the Assessment Sheet Variety Pack) allowed for consistent assessment terms as students went from one assessment to the next. This was thier way to process the feedback and figure out what improvements they need before recording again.
- Setting up digital recorders in practice rooms, and then finding the time to listen to each students performance to offer specific feedback was always the challenge.
