This is a good ‘getting to know you’ Music Interest Survey for Students activity, or perhaps when you have a few minutes to kill. You could even set these questions up as a Google Form. They won’t know how to answer some, and maybe cut the Grandparents, etc (in case a kid has lost someone). Or change the wording – these are just ideas. I then ‘gather’ the data which has led to some engaging conversations around musical tastes and current trends, and reveals how music impacts their lives (depending on the age). - What’s your favorite radio/streaming station(s)? (Which station would you check first if you were in the car?)
- What styles of music or artists do your siblings listen to? (Both older or younger, if applicable.)
- What types of music do your parents like? (80’s, 90’s, Metal, country, favorite radio stations, maybe name a few artists they like.) (What radio or streaming channel would they go to first?)
- What musical genres or musicians do you think your Grandparents enjoy(ed)?
- Do you remember music you liked when you were little? (Grades 1-3 for example)
- Where do you listen to music the most? When are you most likely to listen to music? (Doing homework, in the car, when I’m trying to sleep, when my family has dinner, etc.)
- Do you have access/subscribe to any streaming services playing device? (circle one) yes no
- Do you go online to look for or check out music? (YouTube, artist sites) (circle one) never rarely sometimes every week
- What type of music do your closest friends listen to?
- What do you think the ‘cool’ kids in school listen to? :-)
- What in your life is related to, or uses music? (Cheering, dancing, skating, sports, relatives that are musicians, parents, the fact you’re in band)
